Our Day with the Backstreet Boys

Some days cannot prepare you for the thrilling life as a Makeup and Hair Artist . Your client(s) may be high profile personalities, celebrities , extraordinary athletes, or the girl next door.

Recently, we were hired to do Hair and Makeup for the Backstreet Boys. They held a press junket here in Las Vegas to help promote their New Residency Show, "Larger Than Life", at the AXIS Theater in Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino.

Here's our awesome day:

We arrive early and begin setup, I nervously await for the first band member to walk through those dressing room doors. A quiet and sleepy Howie walks in and Meghann and I introduce ourselves and begin our work. Now, of course, on the outside I'm as cool as a cucumber but on the inside I can feel my inner 13 year old self feeling the pressure of styling the hair of a man whose face once was displayed over my teenage bedroom walls. My nerves settle and I complete his hair and await for the next Backstreet Boy to sit in my chair. The rest of the day went as planned, with touch-ups and staying on set. The entire team at the show was delightful and welcoming, which is always so appreciated.

I love the initial adrenaline rush from the excitement and stress. Then that stress begins to melt away into a sense of confidence and accomplishment.

This feeling of nervousness can strike at anytime with any client, but it is important as professionals we remember to remain calm and treat people the way we wish to be treated. Working with celebrities is part of the job- they're human and have worked hard to get to where they are. To be respectful, professional, and adaptable are the requirements.

We could not have asked for a better day to work with such a delightful group of gentlemen. They were so polite and pleasant and we can't wait to work with them again soon!
